The 'Forget-me-not' series is inspired by my interest in women's history, classical art and forgotten beauties from mostly Victorian era vintage photos.
This was an era where virtues and beauty in women were admired, taught and required, often at the expense of the woman's individuality, comfort and independence.
Each painting represents a particular virtue, sometimes ironic in tone, and contains a native New Zealand flower to create a context relevant to New Zealand.
The native flowers to be found in this collection are the pohutukawa, hebe, manuka, red mistletoe, rata, clematis, and sun orchid. Whilst not a native, there is also macrocarpa – iconic to the New Zealand landscape.
Some of these paintings are for sale , enquiries welcome.
